APEX, NC – Chaney’s Champions’ partnerships with agencies that assist children in need have expanded outside of North Carolina and now includes its first partnership with an agency outside law enforcement.
On November 17, 2017, Chaney’s Champions will be donating 70 teddy bears to Edmarc Hospice for Children. Edmarc is located in Portsmouth, Virginia. Through its partnership with Edmarc, Chaney’s Champions’ goal is to supply 200 bears per year to Edmarc so that patients, and their siblings, can receive a teddy bear to help bring comfort during their time of need and to #ChampionOn.
Established in 1978, Edmarc Hospice for Children was the first hospice in the nation designed specifically for children. Edmarc is the only pediatric hospice organization in Hampton Roads, Virginia. Edmarc was founded by the members of Suffolk Presbyterian Church in Suffolk, Virginia, along with their minister who was dying of cancer, and a young couple whose only son was dying of a progressive neuromuscular disease. The mission of Edmarc Hospice for Children is to ease the trauma of a child’s illness or death, and to reduce the disabling effects of pediatric illness, loss, and bereavement on families in the Hampton Roads Area.
Chaney’s Champions was formed in 2017 to honor the memory of Chaney James Corcoran, who passed away suddenly from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) at 10 weeks old in Portsmouth, Virginia. Chaney’s Champions’ current focus is to provide teddy bears to organizations that work with children during difficult times. The “Chaney Bears” are used to help bring comfort to children in need and provide opportunities to pay kindness forward and embody the mission of Chaney’s Champions to #ChampionOn with small tokens of kindness.
To fulfill its mission, Chaney’s Champions depends on the generous financial support of family, friends, & members of the surrounding community. The organization will hold its next community fundraising event, “Bouncing 4 Bears”, on Sunday, November 26th from 5-7 PM @ Defy Gravity Trampoline Park located at 4300 Emperor Boulevard in Durham, NC.
