Apex NC – Chaney’s Champions was one of 21 Apex-based community groups to receive a community grant from the Apex PeakFest Festival Committee. Chaney’s Champions received a $1,000 grant award to further its partnership with the Apex Police Department.

The generosity from the PeakFest Festival will allow Chaney’s Champions to purchase an additional 66 GUND Chaney Bears for the Apex Police Department to use when Apex Police Officers encounter children in a crisis situation.
Since the creation of Chaney’s Champions in 2016, the organization’s partnership with Apex Police Department has been significant. A total of 220 Chaney Bears have already been donated to the Police Department through the partnership. The PeakFest grant will increase the total to 286 teddy bears donated to Apex PD since 2016. Chaney Bears have been used by the Apex Police Department in a variety of traumatic situations where children have been involved, ranging from automobile accidents, domestic violence incidents and situations where children have had mental health challenges.
Chaney’s Champions was formed to honor the memory of Chaney James Corcoran, who passed away suddenly from SIDS at 10 weeks old. Chaney’s Champions provides teddy bears to organizations that encounter children in a crisis situation. The “Chaney Bears” are used to help bring comfort to children in need and provide opportunities to pay kindness forward, which embodies the mission of Chaney’s Champions to #ChampionOn with small tokens of kindness.

Since its creation, Chaney’s Champions has donated 725 new GUND teddy bears to
organizations that assist children. Donations have been made to Apex Police Department, Roxboro Police and Fire Department, Durham County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Hillsborough Police Department and EDMARC Children’s Hospice. Additionally, Chaney’s Champions will be donating 50 Chaney Bears to Clayton Police Department in June and at least 60 Chaney Bears to Carrboro Police Department in June as well.
To fulfill its mission, Chaney’s Champions depends on the generous financial support from family, friends, & members of the community.
